I’m Sanders Kaufman and I’m studying to become a high school math teacher. I set up this blog as a journal about what I explore and experience as I go through this process.
Much of the process of becoming a teacher, aside from taking a lot of classes, involves being in an actual classroom, working with actual students. Thus, this blog will cover both roles – educator and educatee.
As educator, the focus will be on my part-time, minimum-wage job as a substitute Teacher’s Assistant for the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD). Each day, I visit AesopOnline.com, which does all the substitute scheduling for Dallas and several adjoining districts. They provide me with a list of all the positions available for the day, and allow me to schedule my assignments online.
As an educatee (student), the focus will be on my classes at the Richland campus of Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD). Some student teacher work will be involved, but there are only two classes out of 30+ that are educator-related. The rest are core classes like history and English and a whole bunch of math. The goal is to have an Associates in Arts and Technology with a major in Math Education. After that, it’s off to the University of Texas at Arlington for their Bachelor’s program.
Since education is a lifelong process, I expect to keep this blog going for many years to come.
